The Snow College science department is well known for all of the artifacts found in the science building whether it is fossilized rocks or well-found geos and crystals. The science department is also dedicated to sharing that knowledge with the best possible way of showing them through their very popular planetarium which holds at least one show almost every week of the month.

In the month of February there was one show that truly stood out amongst those interested in what could lie beyond our home planet of Earth and that show was “Distant Worlds- Alien Life.” A show exploring the wonders of the universe around us and what sort of life could possibly develop and what new planets could become home for us someday.

The show began with a brief description of our universe and why the rest of the planets around us were impossible to host any sort of living organisms, once out of our solar system, however, lies one place that closely resembles Earth known as Keplar 452b, a planet with very similar time scale and rotation cycles to earth with oceans and land masses. Professor Jonathan Pugmire of Snow College is the host of many of the planetarium shows.

When asked what he enjoys the most about hosting the shows he said, “I like showing off to students and the community the wonders of space and how breathtaking it is.” And breathtaking, it was seeing how possible it is to not just have planets that closely resemble ours but also planets that may develop alien life as well.
