The Snow College softball team opened conference play at home with a record of 5-10, after their non-conference slate taking on their in-state rivals the Utah State Eastern Eagles. Who entered the matchup sitting at 4-5.
The Badgers started off slow to start the series allowing 2 runs in the top of the fourth en route to a three and out themselves in the bottom frame. The Eagles kept up the pressure putting up another run in the top of the second but the Badgers were able to strike back in the bottom of the third putting up 6 runs and taking control of the game. Snow allowed 1 more run in the fourth but the Badgers kept up the assault in the bottom of the fifth adding 8 more runs to the total, ending the game at a mercy 14-4.
In the second game of the day the Eagles again started off hot allowing them to go up 6-0 by the end of the fifth and in a position to score even more in the sixth. They put up an additional two runs, but the Badgers were determined not to let the game end in a mercy.
They came roaring back in the bottom of the sixth putting up 4 runs, 3 of which came off of Ayden Fitch’s home run. But it was too little too late as in the seventh the Eagles put up an additional run extending the lead to 9-4 and in the bottom of the seventh Snow put up 3 more runs but ran out of gas losing game two 9-7.
Starting day two, the Badgers came out with a renewed vigor going up 6-1 by the end of the second inning. The Eagles came back in the top of the third frame putting up 3 runs, but the Badgers weren't backing down. Putting up 6 more in the bottom of the third making the score 12-4. Snow would add one more in the fourth and USUE would put up 2 in the top of the fifth but it wasn’t enough, ending the game 13-6 in a mercy.
The Badgers kept their foot on the pedal entering the last game of the series where they again put up 7 runs in the first two innings and they kept the bats of USUE quiet only allowing the Eagles to score 1 run in the top of the fourth while the Badgers put up 2 more in the bottom of the fourth ending the game in a 9-1 win in a 5 innings mercy.
