Sanpete County is known for two things: agriculture and swing dancing. People drift to this area from all over the state to experience pure country swing dancing. It’s so popular that the Western Swing Club at Snow has held the record for largest club on campus since before people can remember.
Because of this popularity, Snow College student Noah Stevens started hosting swing on Friday nights at the LDS Institute Building in 2023.
Noah graduated in May of 2024, so Hiatt Wade decided to pick it up again and held a grand opening for Sanpete Swing on December 5, 2024 at the Peterson Dance Hall in Fairview.
They hosted swing there on Fridays from 7:30 p.m. until midnight. All ages were welcome and many enjoyed this second day each week to go dancing with their friends.
Ally Chidester, a regular at swing said that she was glad “another young adult picked it up after Noah moved away and made it open to all ages and really inclusive.”
Another regular, Madeline Massera, looked forward to attending swing every week. She said that her favorite part was “twirling, twirling, and more twirling!” while she danced the night away.
Unfortunately, after canceling swing on February 10 and 13 for Valentine’s day, Sanpete Swing released a post announcing that they would remain closed until further notice. The price to rent Peterson Dance Hall had doubled which made it too hard to rent the space.
Sanpete Swing has assured everyone that they are looking for a new place to host swing and will get it up and running as soon as possible.
