Snow College offers many different courses that explore specific fields of study. Convocations, however, is a student's way to take one course emphasizing many different areas of education.
On Thursday afternoons from 12:30-1:20 in the Eccles building, speakers come to educate students and “promote intellectual and aesthetic inquiry”. Convocations coordinator Erik Freeman says, “We welcome presentations that stimulate an exchange of views between speakers and the audience… this term we have speakers that are historians, literary scholars, businesspeople, military officials, student success trainers, motivational speakers, and college administrators.”
Convocations is open to the public, but students can take the course for credit and open opportunities for more exploration. Convocations Plus is a program where students do extra readings and engage with the speakers one on one. This allows students to explore different fields of interest and collaborate with people who may enhance future job opportunities.
Convocations can allow students to explore their interests without committing to a full semester course. Freeman states “I highly encourage anybody and everybody to attend Convocations and ask all students to sign up for the class. After all, they get college credit for hearing interesting speakers. I hope that we can get more people to enroll in the future.”
Future Convocations include Transformational Coach, Carson Tueller on February 8th, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Snow College, and Technical Service Archivist at Brigham Young University, Micheal Austin and Rebecca Wiederhold on February 15th, and Montana State Universities Associate Professor of History & Women and Gender Studies, Amanda Hendrix-Komoto on February 22.
