The Career Center at Snow College is dedicated to helping students gain valuable experience through internships, job opportunities, and career planning. By working with both outside companies and college programs, the center provides students with the tools they need to succeed in their chosen fields.
The Career Center helps students find jobs or internships in areas related to a field they are interested in. While some of these job opportunities come from outside companies, many of them come through Snow College and its programs.
Chad Dewey, Head of the Natural Resources Department, provides roughly 20 paid internships each year and connects students with more job opportunities.
Dewey encourages students to get hands-on experience during school because it will help students find a job after receiving their education. He said it will also “help [students] decide if they like the field they’re in before they’ve gone through all of the schooling for it.”
Dewey also shared that many of his students have started internships while in college and became full-time employees during or after schooling. He explained that having that experience “will help [students] get that full-time job either in that exact place or one similar to it that they enjoy.”
Like the Natural Resources Department, many of the major departments at Snow have job and internship opportunities. These jobs can help students gain experience in different fields to determine if that is what they want to go into.
The Career Center also helps students plan for post-Snow schooling. Most of this is done through Networking Nights hosted throughout the school year. Networking Nights are a chance for students to meet with different colleges so they can get a better understanding of their options after Snow.
Mike Brenchly, head of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Division, said, “Networking is about making connections… Come make connections at the college.” He went on to explain that Networking Nights are a great way to learn about new opportunities and experiences available.
The most recent networking night was on October 23 for the Social and Behavioral Science Division. This is the oldest Networking Night and one of the biggest. Over 20 colleges and programs came to meet with students and help them find what they want to do after Snow.
These networking nights are a great opportunity for students to make connections and see future opportunities available to them.
In addition to job searches, the Career Center assists with resumes, cover letters, interview prep, and headshots for platforms like LinkedIn.
The Career Center Staff is ready to help with many different needs. They are located in the west portable by the business building. For any questions or to set up an appointment for more in-depth help, contact them at career.services@snow.edu or 435-283-7648.
