Brushes with Bob

Happy little trees” and “fluffy clouds” done by Snow College students, were seen all over canvases during the Brushes with Bob paint night held by the Snow College Student Body Officers. Students gathered together in the Greenwood Student Center with friends and other classmates to follow along to a tutorial done by Bob Ross, who in all reality was really another student, Sally Owens. 

Throughout the night, students would have the opportunity to paint and create their own masterpieces even while making some “happy accidents" along the way, and no real mistakes. Bob Ross led the tutorial by demonstrating one of the pieces titled, Meadow Road; A scene showing a mountain range, with large pine trees, rolling green foothills, and a windy dirt road.

Through the night students followed along with the painting tutorial to create their own versions of Meadow Road. Bob Ross took them through a journey starting with the sky, then working into the clouds, mountains, trees, and so forth. While painting, students could also enjoy a provided rootbeer float.

“I liked that it was entertaining, wholesome, fun, and enjoyable. It was fun to learn more about painting, I think I could have done better but the effort was there” shared  student Summer Blake, who followed along with the painting tutorial.

Special Bob Ross featured prizes such as, Bob Ross bobble heads, Bob Ross socks and also mugs. Participants would have the opportunity to win these prizes by finding different colored stickers on items such as their canvas, cups, or plates. 

Sally Owens, dressed as Bob Ross and who gave the tutorial shared, “It was super fun to dress up as the aspiring Bob Ross for the night and act like him. I definitely had to study for the part to be prepared to really give him the justice he deserves. I loved to see what other students came up with too. Seeing everyone's creativity made me so happy.”

Some students chose to follow along exactly with the painting while others chose to take a path with more creative freedom. In the end, it was a night full of colors and will be remembered by many students.
